Canada’s Deadliest Shooting
On April 23, 2020 by jmwebThe scope of this crime scene had started to become more clear. What I had thought might had been 1-2 people with injuries had become a crime scene spread over 5-6 spots. Later that number would jump.
One such spot was along this road in Debert where the RCMP had a cruiser blocking off the road. A quick chat with the RCMP Member blocking the road revealed he was from the Bedeque RCMP detachment in Cape Breton. He had been called in to protect this crime scene.

As I finished up in Milford and Shubenacadie, I decided to take a swing back to a couple crime scenes. Enfield was cleaned up and so wasn’t Debert. Hoping for the best for the victims of these locations, I proceeded back to Portapique.
Two RCMP cruisers were still there. Not good I thought as all the other crime scenes I revisited had no RCMP Members guarding them.
The memorial Dave Brown had previously placed, being lit up by the flashing RCMP police lights.
This was the end of day 1. An extremely difficult day for so many. A lot of questions came up in my conversation with RCMP officers. Was this related to COVID-19? Why? How many more crime scenes? What happened between 11pm and 1130am.
So many questions with no answers yet. But they will come in time.
