Setting Day Eve on PEI
On May 3, 2021 by jmwebTonight is setting day eve, where lobster fisherfolk head out in the morning and set their traps. For Islanders this is an exciting day as the lobster fisheries is big part of our economy.
For some, they baited their traps & loaded their boats on the weekend. For others, they will wait till the morning to bait their traps. The worry being that the bait within will disappear overnight.
With the different creatures around, I can’t blame them.
For many loading the boats and baiting the traps is a family event. There is no shortage of helpers over this past weekend.
While the fishing season has been delayed over the last few days, due to bad weather, others are anxiously awaiting the first feed of lobster.
For myself, setting day represents the traps leaving the harbour.
And although I love capturing imagery of the fishing traps on the harbour, the economy needs this to get back to normal.
