A smudging ceremony with sage took place by Elder Junior Peter Paul.
After walking around the crowd and offering the smudging to everyone, the elder proceeded to place the smudge bowl amongst the sneakers/shoes/boots of the children.
By this time a crowd had gathered. It wasn’t a large one but definitely a good size. Organizers didn’t want it too big. Mostly everyone was wearing a mask outdoors unless they were speaking.
There were a couple of speakers including Lynn Bradley of the Native Council of Prince Edward Island.
Another speaker, Jason Knockwood, spoke about how some of the 215 children could have been drummers, lobster fishermen, dancers, etc.
