21 Moments from 2021
On December 29, 2021 by jmweb15. Award Winning Photographer
This past year had me winning three out of six possible Atlantic Journalism Awards.
*Gold for Photojournalism Portrait/Feature for COVID March Break (Reuters, PEI)
*Silver for Photojournalism Portrait/Feature for Canada/USA Border Closure (Globe and Mail, NB)
*Silver for Photojournalism News for Nova Scotia Shootings (Reuters, NS)
I think I was the only journalist to get awards in all three provinces. Lucky lucky!
14. FujiFilm
In the fall of 2021, Fuji sent me the FUJI GFX 100s for 3 weeks. I had only switched to Sony in the last year which featured a 61MP camera. The difference between the Fuji GFX 100s and the A7r IV is the sensor size. The Fuji sensor is bigger than the Sony and is just the rest of the Sony a7r IV sensor that you don’t get compared to the Fuji.
The native image size on the Fuji GFX 100s is 24×36 @ 300dpi which would give me lots of room to play when creating imagery for Jigsaw Puzzles. There is a downside, I’ll get into it in a future blog post. It was sad sending the FujiFilm GFX 100s back as it is a great landscape camera.
13. Canadian Championships: Montreal FC vs Halifax Wanderers
I had never covered soccer before, however I had previously covered Canadian football. This took a bit for me to get my head around as I wasn’t used to this type of tournament before. A team from a top tiered league (Montreal FC) was playing against a team from a 3rd tiered league (Halifax Wanderers).
As blogged and photographed for Journal De Montreal.
12. PEI Potato Truck Rally
Earlier this week, there was a rally for PEI Potato Farmers. The USA border, where PEI exports reach $100 million, has been shut down to Island farmers.
As assigned by The Globe and Mail.
11. World War II Plane Crash Sites
With restrictions in place, I had to spend more time exploring Prince Edward Island for the first half of the 2021 year. Both sites were up West near Richmond and Alaska. The Alaska journey being one of my complex hikes this year vs the Richmond hike. I outlined it further in the blog post.
