Golf Course with a Parking lot in USA & Course in Canada.

There is a golf course in Western New Brunswick that is in a unique situation with COVID-19. The Aroostook Valley Country Club (234 Russell Rd, Fort Fairfield, ME 04742, United States) sits literally on the international border of Canada and the United States. When I write sits on the border, I literally mean it.

The parking lot and pro shop are located on the Western side of the property which is located in the United States. Meanwhile, the golf course is located on the Eastern side of the property, in Canada.

The first time I had visited the area was at the suggestion of border agents on the Canadian side at a different checkpoint. They suggested I travel however many kilometres down the road and check out this unique checkpoint. So I did. I came across this trailer and by sheer luck, a border agent was there. After spending some time talking with him, he told me there was a golf course just up this street with half of it on the American side and half in Canada.

I roamed around the above checkpoint and snapped some pics. I eventually came back home. On my 2nd visit to this area in late October, I captured the rest of the images.

The Russell road starts off in Canada but eventually the entire road is part of the United States as is seen by the image on the bottom. Please remember the road travels from right to left in the picture and not top to bottom. The dirt road you see is a farmers field. Notice the km/h on the Canadian sign and the American speed limit sign on the left.

The road is heavily monitored by border agents from the US of A.

A bit further up the street and the International Boundary switches sides. The entire road is behind the boundary.

I attempted to find a way to travel to the golf course but was quickly let down. Canadian border agents tell me people travel through the field to get to it. The road winds through a field making its way to an area with barns.

I made it to a certain point along this secondary road however didn’t wish to go any further along it. I was within a couple hundred meters of the golf course not willing to continue along the secondary road nor was I willing to walk through the farmers field. So I turned around and went to explore the other side of the golf course.

A short 10-15 minute drive later and I discovered the golf course was atop a small hill, so photographing it would be impossible as a river prevents me from getting to close on the opposite side.

None the less, I found a uniqueness in the Aroostook Valley Country Club without finding the actual Aroostook Valey Country Club.
