Hurricane Fiona Aftermath
On October 14, 2022 by jmwebOn September 27th, I woke up early. It was foggy out and I wanted to re-capture some of the destruction Hurricane Fiona left in Port aux Basques with the eerie fog.

As time went on, more people came visible walking the streets. Wanting to help out.
City staff was ensuring everyone was fed meanwhile those who were impacted the worst were bringing coffee to people on the ground. It was absolutely heart-warming.
With more of an emphasis on the clean-up process, crews started to quickly remove the debris spread around the coastal town.
I spoke with a few power crews who were telling me their jobs would be done that day and they’d be heading to Prince Edward Island to help out. Everyone in Port aux Basques that could be re-connected, was.
I completed a walk around the most devastated part of the community.
After capturing and filling some images along with video, I decided to head out down the coast to see what changes had happened there. This turned out to be a good move as my next stop would be in Burnt Islands, a short 20-minute drive away.
I parked my SUV and walked up towards a Fox Roost Road which was significantly impacted. The following image would be the most popular image utilized by media outlets of Hurricane Fiona, outperforming any images of Biden visiting the destructed areas in the USA.
After visiting the Burnt Islands, I went back to the Port aux Basques area. The military was set to arrive. I didn’t want to miss it. The military was setting up at the Bruce II Sports Centre.
Meanwhile back home, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was visiting Prince Edward Island. Fellow Islander, Phil Matusiewicz was on the scene back home photographing it for Reuters. I was excited for Phil as it was one of his first assignments covering the Prime Minister. Phil has done some great work covering sports for me in the past where I couldn’t be in two spots at once.
This would wrap up my coverage of Fiona for September 27th. The next day, the Prime Minister would arrive in Newfoundland. Next page.
