QMJHL Semi-Finals: Halifax Mooseheads vs Sherbrooke Phoenix
On May 1, 2023 by jmwebThe Halifax Moosehead’s were fighting the Quebec Rempart for the top position in the QMJHL. Although it wasn’t too close fight, the Moosehead’s did defeat the Rempart in their last game in January. As such, I was anticipating a Halifax Mooseheads vs Quebec Rempart final.
On Saturday the third round of the playoffs commenced for the Mooseheads where they took on the Sherbrooke Phoenix in Halifax. I was assigned to cover the game for Journal de Montreal/Journal de Montreal/TVA Sports.
The outcome was not what I was expecting with the Sherbrooke Phoenix defeating the Halifax squad rather easily.
Fresh off the North Sydney ferry from Newfoundland, I brought my A7r IV’s and an A1 to capture the game. The A7 rIV isn’t technically a sports camera because of its high 61mp and now, lower, 10fps but the camera is amazing for sports. Although my beast of a camera, the Sony A1, is much faster, the Sony A7r IV is a great camera for sports too, the low light performance is top notch!
The first period featured a beauty of a break away from the Halifax Moosehead’s. Captured on the Sony A1 at 30 fps, it was rather sweet.
The second period was a bit less entertaining and I only submitted 4 images. Truth be told, I was well over on the first period so I loosened up in the second.
The third period the action picked up.
The Sherbrooke Phoenix ended up defeating the Halifax Moosehead’s and taking the series lead 1-0.
