Hurricane Fiona Hits PEI

When Hurricane Fiona hit the Atlantic Canada region, I was heading from St. John’s to Port aux Basques to cover the storm for Reuters. As mentioned in previous blog posts, it was our game plan. As the storm progressed, I was being updated by numerous friends as to what was happening on Prince Edward Island…

After a couple of days covering this massive storm from Port Aux Basques, I ran into the Member of Parliament for the area. She had mentioned she flew into PEI prior to Newfoundland & Labrador and all the trees were like match sticks toppled over. wow.

Fast forward to October 9th when I arrived home after covering two NHL games where the Ottawa Senators took on the Montreal Canadiens. I had initially planned on completing a book on the subject but I didn’t wanna do the book alone. I asked Jim Abraham about doing a book on the subject and he was in! Sadly in the end, due to my own delays, I had to back out.

I did end up going around Prince Edward Island and snapping some pictures of Hurricane Fiona’s widespread damage.

During one of my days in Port Aux Basques, I ran into a Newfoundland Power crew that was headed to PEI after they finished in PAB. As such, I was sure to check out all the Newfoundland Power trucks on PEI when I returned.

The PEI National Park was one of the first spots I visited. I was absolutely shocked at the devastation. Sure enough, there was plenty of work for people to do cleaning up our province. It included power crews also from Power NB and Bell Aliant.
