
New Edinburgh lobster pound burns down
On November 29, 2021 by jmwebA lobster pound that was a highlight of the 2020 Nova Scotia lobster dispute has burnt down with only the shell remaining. When tensions were at their highest during the 2020 lobster dispute, I would visit this plant once every couple of hours to make sure I wasn’t missing anything.
The plant was well protected at this time. To get there, you had to pass through a RCMP checkpoint firstly and secondly an indigenous checkpoint at the actual plant. The RCMP were on guard during the first year with 8-10 different cruisers along this part of the road.
It was also a place where an Island officer was stationed. A Kensington Police Office stands next to an RCMP officer in front of the New Edinburgh plant.




Turns out, on Thursday night the plant was ablaze. Nothing has come out on whether it was deliberate or not.
