21 Moments from 2021
On December 29, 2021 by jmweb9. Pride PEI Parade at East Wiltshire
East Wiltshire School parents and student protest the reports of hate against students celebrating pride day at their school.
As covered for The Canadian Press and seen in CTV News, CBC News, iheartradio, and many others. This was a much different view than my previous visit to East Wiltshire for the Globe and Mail.
8. PEI Potato Exports Banned
The Federal government decided to stop any exports from Prince Edward Island going to the United States after a discovery of potato wart in a field. As covered for The Globe & Mail.
On Prince Edward Island, we hadn’t had community spread until late 2021. This caused our officials to take a different direction with the vaccination process. As most of the initial cases in 2021 surrounded restaurants, officials decided to prioritize vaccinating service with the Astrazeneca vaccine.
As captured for The Globe and Mail.
7. Justin Trudeau’s Visit
I was asked to cover two events featuring Justin Trudeau this year. Both were in Charlottetown. One ended up being an event prior to the snap election call in Canada which Reuters got the jump on and the other being during the election.
Assigned by Reuters. As seen in: NASDAQ, Al Jazeera, Globe and Mail, and more.
6. Erin O’Tooles Election Visit
Erin O’Toole visited Prince Edward Island during the election and it was exciting because it was the first time I had gotten to live file right from the camera to a photo editor. As the show went on, the situation changed. It was no longer about what was happening in front of us but what was happening beside us.
As assigned by Reuters and seen in: National Post, National Post 2, Globe and Mail, and more.
5. Newfoundland
I haven’t visited Newfoundland in three years. In May, I had an assignment to cover the icebergs for a client. For the first time in forever, the icebergs never came and I never did the assignment.
This year, the plan was for me to visit 5-6 weeks during late summer/early fall, it ended up being cut short to three weeks when I had to boot er to Halifax for an assignment.
Instagram Posts.
4. Quebec City
I absolutely love old Quebec City. It is one of my favourite spots in Canada to visit. I literally will spend hours walking around in awe. My journey following the fall foliage started in Quebec City, following the colours all the way to Cape Breton.
