Memorial Cup Final: Saint John Sea Dogs vs Hamilton Bulldogs
On July 23, 2022 by jmwebFor the third period, things had heated up. The image for this period that really stood out to me was a simple one. The momentum was building.
I could show you some more imagery from the third but at this point, everyone knew what we were waiting for. It was the celebration.
Photographers were previously emailed asking to let the media relations team know if we individually wanted on-ice access for the celebrations. For myself, I was just handed a bracelet without asking. The great folks running the media side of the event knew I would. All the photographers lined up near the visiting teams end and once the door open, we ran (or walked) onto the ice.
The Saint John Sea Dogs had won the Memorial Cup.
After many hugs and congratulatory words, it was time for the teams to line up to shake the other teams hands.
From here, it was time for the trophy presentation…but first another presentation. The players had dumped a bucket of water on Sea Dogs General Manager, Trevor Georgie.
And now it was time for the presentations.
First up, playoff MVP. It went to William Dufour. Now what everyone really wanted to see.
The Memorial Cup presentation! Now when covering something like this, being in the right spot at the right time matters. So the event photographer and I were going to go to the same spot so the players would skate towards us. And the first ones did.
Until one of the players decided he was going to skate in the opposite direction causing us to dart to the other end of the ice.
After this, there was just one more thing to do. The team photo.
What an exciting event and I was so happy to be involved!
